A+ Denver and Denver Public Schools Announces FNE Community Committeeto Drive School Improvements
Committee to Develop Strategies for Strengthening and Creating Schools in Far Northeast Denver
Denver – A+ Denver has partnered with Denver Public Schools to convene a Far Northeast Community Committee. This committee will examine issues critical to Far Northeast Denver schools including: academic performance, effective feeder patters, program offerings, high school configurations, school overcrowding, and strategies to close the achievement gap and meet the needs of English Language Learners. The committee will have two work products. The spring set of meetings will produce a set of principles embodying the community’s values in education, and the fall set of meetings will produce a set of recommendations to inform the district’s decision making on the policies and strategies for school improvement.
Interested community members were asked to submit a form indicating their desire to participate in the committee process for the purpose of ensuring diverse representation of stakeholders on the committee including parents, community representatives, teachers and school leaders. A total of 112 interest forms were received, and 46 community representatives were selected. Those individuals are as follows:

The Far Northeast Community Committee meetings are open to the public and will incorporate opportunities for public input. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 6:00PM – 8:00PM, at Rachel B. Noel. Additional meetings will be held on April 27, May 11, May 25 and June 8 from 6:00-8:00PM at locations to be announced. Peter Kenney from Civic Results, Fernando Pineda-Reyes of CREA Results and Ken Snyder of Place Matters have been contracted by A+ Denver to facilitate the meetings. All meetings will offer child care, food, simultaneous Spanish interpretation and translation of written and presentation materials.
